Eczema Can Be Treated

October 25, 2021

Many people aren’t aware that skin is the human body’s largest organ. It surrounds your innards, shields them from the outside world, assists in regulating body temperature and serves as a filter. And as with every other part of the body, your skin is subject to a variety of conditions. Eczema is one of them. While it is commonplace in children, this ailment that makes your skin red and itchy can show up in people of any age.

Bel Air’s skilled professionals are experts at diagnosing and treating skin conditions. We are committed to skin health and will create a plan to effectively manage your eczema to give you relief from symptoms.

Red, itchy skin is an indication of eczema. Other symptoms include dryness; thickness, cracks or scales; or small raised bumps that may leak fluid and crust over when scratched. The exact cause of eczema is not known, but the main theory is that it’s the overreaction of the body’s immune system to an irritant, such as certain soaps, household cleaners, fabrics and cigarette smoke. Furthermore, eczema is commonly found in families that have a history of allergies or asthma. It’s not transmissible between people.

Though eczema has no cure, it can be managed with proper medical treatment and lifestyle changes that include avoiding the irritants that set it off. The treatment of eczema involves preventing and relieving itching, which is a source of infection.

A dermatologist will prescribe certain medications and skin creams depending on the severity of your condition. In some instances, phototherapy (exposing the skin to ultraviolet light) helps relieve symptoms.

At the office of Bel Air, we understand how eczema can affect your overall well-being. We will work to manage it by effectively relieving symptoms.
